MEET THE TEAM

Our business objective is clear and straight forward. The GPE leadership group offers investors and SMEs a wealth of real world business experience and acumen.

GPE is a business built to deliver more than just Equity Capital. Our people are one of our greatest strengths. As a group we bring vast knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to our business relationships with investors and SMEs alike. The following short biographies will give you some insight into the individuals who drive our success.

Kieran O'Hagan

Kieran has over 25 years' commercial experience in financial services including investment banking, share broking, banking, portfolio management, investment and corporate advisory. He has over 15 years governance experience in both the 'for profit' and 'not for profit' sectors of the community.

He is a member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand Incorporated. He is a Professional Director and a Trustee of several Charitable Trusts. Immediately prior to co-founding Genesis Private Equity Limited, Kieran was responsible for the BNZ Private Bank advisory and banking services throughout Mid and South Canterbury to high net worth individuals, families, partnerships, charities and companies.

Nathan Mills

Nathan has over 20 years' banking experience in relationship management roles, specialising in lending to medium sized businesses.

Prior to co-founding Genesis Private Equity Limited, Nathan was BNZ's Commercial Partner, Mid-South Canterbury for 9 years managing a portfolio of lending peaking at over $190 million, involved in industries including bio-technology, importers/exporters, manufacturing, transport, vertically integrated food manufacturing and service businesses. Previously Nathan was an award winning Journalist working for RNZ National.

John Rolleston
Chairman
LLB

John co-founded and manages South Pacific Sera Limited which is a successful manufacturer and exporter of animal blood products to global pharmaceutical companies. John has significant experience in negotiating contracts with suppliers and customers alike. He has outstanding analytical skills accompanied with a superb interpersonal capacity.

He has extensive governance experience, having been the Deputy Chairman of PrimePort Timaru Limited. He is currently the Chair of Waihi School. A qualified lawyer, John's business, professional and personal contacts are numerous and he is highly regarded across the Canterbury business community and beyond.

Howard Smith
Director

A life-long 'grocer', Howard's career led him to owning several New World Supermarkets throughout South Canterbury and culminated in him successfully developing, operating and selling Foodstuffs South Island Limited's flagship store located in Timaru.

Howard also grew and sold a share in New Zealand Petfoods Limited. He is currently the Chairman of Trust Aoraki Limited and was previously a board member of Aoraki Development and Promotions Limited (the economic development arm of Timaru District Council). His contribution to regional business has been recognised with Life Membership of South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce.
Grant Jarrold

Grant is a Partner in Deloitte based in Christchurch, in particular the Deloitte Private service that specialises in the provision of advisory services to SMEs throughout Canterbury and the South Island.

Grant has had more than 25 years' of financial control, accounting and audit experience that enables him to advise and assist businesses to grow and meet their shareholders' aspirations, especially the types of businesses being sought for investment by Genesis Private Equity No.1 Fund LP. During his professional career to date Grant has had significant Board Advisory and Governance experience with SMEs across many industries.

Complimentary to his professional and business experience, Grant has a strong personal interest in the business of sport and is the Chairman of the Board of the Crusaders (Crusaders GP Limited) and is a current Director and past Chairman of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union.
Garry Haskett

Garry has investment interests in several KFC outlets and was awarded "Franchisee of the South Pacific region" in 1994.

In 1997 he completed an Executive MBA (with distinction).

He is a Director and CEO of Lignotech Developments Limited, a Mid Canterbury start-up company, which has developed a patented manufacturing process with commercial opportunity on a global scale.

He is a past president of the Rotary Club of Ashburton and held district positions within the Rotary organisation.
Paul Davis
Director
BSc, MBA, CFA

Paul is an entrepreneur, investor and company director with global experience in engineering, software, internet, venture capital, and investment management.

As an entrepreneur he’s been involved in 12+ start-ups, including founding Connect.Com - the first Australian ISP, E*TRADE Australia - an E*TRADE licensee for Australia and New Zealand, and TechInvest - a global equity fund manager; creating over $500m in shareholder value.

As an investor Paul worked as Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Bankers Trust Australia, CEO and MD of Nova Pacific Capital Limited - an ASX listed technology incubator, and then Chairman and Portfolio Manager at TechInvest, investing up to $200m for retail and institutional clients.

As a company director he has served on the board of three Australian Stock Exchange listed entities, the board of a member firm of the Australian Stock Exchange, and diverse private companies.

Aside from his professional qualifications, Paul has served as a research fellow on the faculties of Bond University and the University of Melbourne in Australia.
